Akwe:go Program
Funder: Ontario Federation Indigenous | Friendship Centres

The Akwe:go Urban Aboriginal Children’s Program at Inuuqatigiit is dedicated to the support of at-risk Inuk children aged 7 to 12. With 22 children registered in the program we're committed to fostering their growth and potential in alignment with their unique aspirations. The role of the Akwe:go Coordinator includes supporting with institutional interventions, social supports, children in care, children with disabilities, and health and physical development. Akwe:go sessions generally take place at school, but home visits as well as visits at after-school programming are also typical at certain points of the year.

Our program operates on a personalized approach, where each child and family charts their course, which is then supported by the Akwe:go Coordinator.

At Akwe:go school sessions, the children enjoy nutritious snacks, cultural immersion, and activities promoting overall well-being. In the past year, we introduced the Inuit Arts Club at the Hardini Centre in partnership with the Bridging the Gap Team. This monthly gathering provided a platform for cultural exploration, communal meals, and collaborative art projects, enriching the experiences of our participants.
