Seeing The Light Conference

March 2020 Conference, Ottawa UPDATE:

The Director and Management team at Inuuqatigiit have been keeping a close eye on COVID-19, and with the approval of our Board of Directors, we have decided to postpone the upcoming Seeing the Light Conference until further notice. Our agency wants to ensure that we are taking every step to protect the health and safety of the participants of the conference, our presenters and performers, our staff, and our community.

All of the registrations and payment will be applied to the future conference, and no further action is required on your part. When the new date is chosen, if you are unable to make the conference, we will be happy to refund your agency for the price of your ticket.

Thank you to Canadian North who has agreed to be a continued sponsor throughout these changes.

The Seeing the Light Program will keep all registered participants aware when a new date is chosen, and registration will remain open for those participants who wanted to take part but were unable to make it due to the March 25th date. We look forward to hosting you and your colleagues soon!

If you have any questions in regards to the conference, or any other training, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.

The Seeing the Light Program was created to provide cultural education to front-line service providers within the Ottawa area. The program coordinates twice-yearly conferences, in-house agency training, and cultural performances to support with cultural safety within mainstream agencies and add to Inuit knowledge within pan-Indigenous agencies. This program has worked with several agencies and organizations to create safer spaces for Inuit children, youth, and families, and we continue to expand.

Over the past few years, the program has expanded outside of the Ottawa area, and we partnered with the Toronto District School board in planning our first Seeing the Light Conference. The response was overwhelming with a waitlist the size of the spaces available, and therefore, Inuuqatigiit — Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families will continue to host.

The Seeing the Light Program has worked with a variety of partners including:

• Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario
• City of Ottawa
• Ottawa Police Service
• Royal Mounted Canadian Police
• Shepherds of Good Hope
• Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa
• Partners in Parenting
• Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency
• Food Inspection Agency of Canada
• Agriculture Canada
